The Section IV Classic @ SUNY Cortland
At the Section IV Classic last night in Cortland against 36 other area teams, our Varsity trackmen and women got their final warm up before the State Qualifier scheduled for Sunday, February 25 at the historic Barton Hall in Cornell University.
Eighth grader Ceci Kasmarcik ran the 1000 for the first time in her short career and finished with a brisk 3:25.54 which puts her sixth All Time in School History, less than a second behind Pipher Reid. Fellow Eighth grader Clara Little tied her PR in the 600 Meter Run with a time of 2:00 flat. Each girl will switch races for State Quals with Ceci in the 600 (where she is ranked 13th overall in the Section) and Clara in the 1000 (where she is ranked 17th overall).
Junior Ethan Austin finished 9th in the 55 Meter Dash, while senior Connor Little placed 7th in the Mile last night. Both Ethan and Connor will be running at State Quals at Cornell, with Connor ranked 14th in the Section and Ethan 9th in their races.
Strong performances were also put in last night by Freshman Fiona Brennan and Junior Kellen Mulesky in the 1000 Meter Run, and Junior Alyssa Denton in the 55 Meter Dash. Kellen and Alyssa will each be competing at State Quals as part of their respected Relay Teams: Kellen as part of the 4 by 800 Team with Connor, Conway Mallory, and Alex McMullen, while Alyssa will be running a leg along with Ceci, Clara, and Riley Spalik in the 4 by 400 Meter Relay. Riley will also be competing in the 300 Meter Dash (where she is ranked 15th overall in the Section).
And finally, Senior Kara Condon, who missed the Classic because of sickness, will hopefully recover in time to run the 55 Meter Dash at Cornell on the 25th as she is ranked 6th overall in the entire Section in the event.
