Dan Fragola, a football and basketball standout, is certainly one of the most decorated trackmen to ever attend Chenango Forks. Not only is he our first ever STAC Champion, winning the High Jump as a sophomore, but he won the High Jump the next two years as well, maxing out at 6 feet 2 inches. Dan was also a talented Triple Jumper, though this was discovered by necessity. In need of someone to earn points in the event, Coach Brooks told Dan “Just do it, you’ll figure it out” in one meet his Senior year. Despite having limited practice and self professed “terrible form,” Dan remarkably went on to win the STAC Meet that year on pure athleticism and determination.
All told, Dan Fragola has four STAC Championships in two different events, while only two other males in our history have as many as two! His championship dominance had not been seen at Chenango Forks since the days of Mike Ellis hurdling in the mid 1960s. To this day, Fragola is still ranked in our Top Five in the High Jump and Top Ten in the Triple Jumper, while also scoring the seventh most Career Points in School History, including the most ever points in a single season in 1991… Most on his team will think of whenever they hear a Bobby Brown song, as Dan and fellow Class of 1991 alumnus and Hall of Famer Mike Kelly, would blast the former New Edition singer on their boombox before every Meet! Maybe there was something to that pre-meet tradition as the 1991 Team won Chenango Forks’s first Divisional title since 1964.
