Michelle Grady is the greatest all around female athlete in the history of the program.  Period.  When she graduated, she held TEN School records in events as varied as the 100 Meter Hurdles, the Long Jump, the Javelin, and the Pentathlon.  She was also ranked second in the Triple Jump, third in the High Jump, third in the 100 Meter Dash, and fourth in the Pole Vault.  She was even ranked eleventh in the Shot Put!  Her unreal versatility enabled Michelle to graduate as our School Record Holder for Most Points scored in a Single Season and Most Career Points as well, all while leading our Girls Team to back-to-back-to-back Divisional Championships.

Michelle was Class Champion in the Triple Jump, STAC Champion in the High Jump, and two-time STAC Champion in the Long Jump.  Possessing such amazing athletic ability, Michelle would seem like a logical choice to participate in the Pentathlon.  But she had one glaring weakness… the 800.  Two laps.  Like every non-distance runner, the mere thought of even jogging two laps is tiring, and Michelle was not keen on participating in that portion of the Pentathlon. Knowing how much running was involved in Soccer, and realizing Michelle scored over 100 goals in her Varity career, Coach Brooks was confident that with some specific training, she could be at the very least serviceable as a mid-distance runner.

Hesitantly, Michelle gave her trust to her coaches and poured herself into the designed workouts demonstrating that she wasn’t just relying on talent, but also was willing to put in the necessary work.  Amazingly, in her senior year she saw her time drop from 3:04 the first time she ran a competitive 800 Meter Run, all the way down to 2:35.6 at State Qualifiers.  That time placed her in the Top 15 All Time for Chenango Forks runners in the 800 in our history! On that day, she also threw the shot 28 feet, set our school record in the 100 Meter Hurdles, jumped 4’11 in the High Jump, and broke 16 feet in the Long Jump to become the D-2 Sectional Champion. At the State Meet the next week, Michelle finished Second Overall in Division II, the highest any individual Chenango Forks trackman or woman has ever placed in the State for any event!
