It’s About Time…

@ SUNY Cortland
Our Indoor Chenango Forks Trackmen and women kicked of the season at SUNY Cortland on Friday night, taking part in the traditional opening meet of the season known as the “It’s About Time Invite.” There was an even dozen teams in attendance, and we had some stellar early season performances.
Sophomore Clara Little (coming off her Individual Section Championship in Cross Country), won the 3000 Meter Run with an impressive time of 12:05.93, which is third All Time in School History. This was an amazing 35 second drop from her PR in Indoor, and even a 20 second drop from her PR in Outdoor! Clara came back to come within one second of her PR in the 1500 Meter Run and finished Third Overall in that event. Eighth grader Michaela Wood, in her first Varsity race, was able to get on the podium, finishing sixth with a courageous kick at the finish to beat the Union Springs runner! Beca Yahner, also running in her first Indoor race, finished 8th overall.
Our Girls Sprint Medley Team ran the fifth fastest time in Forks’ History and placed second overall at the meet. The team consisted of Grace Harkness and Ahna Carter (each of whom was competing in their first ever Indoor Meet), alongside Jamie Prince and Ceci Kasmarcik. Individually, Ceci was able to finish Third in the 1000 Meter Run, while Jamie crossed the line in fourth place in the 600 Meter Run (the first time she has ever ran that distance)! Grace, Katherine Yahner, and Ahna placed 7th, 8th, and 9th in the same event! Katherine placed one spot higher in the 1000 Meter Run.
In the field, our girls had an equally impressive night! Jillian Howell (competing in her first Indoor Meet), placed second overall in the Shot Put, while Jamie Prince placed second overall in the Long Jump with our fifth furthest jump in CF Indoor History! Senior Kaden Schultz placed fourth in the Triple Jump and fifth in the Long Jump as well.
On the Boys’ side of things, sophomore Abdual Bumbrey is now ranked Eighth All Time at CF in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 7.25 seconds and came back to place fifth overall in the 300 Meter Dash! Senior Garrett Vail placed Sixth in the 1600 Meter Run and Eighth Grader Sawyer Kasmarcik placed 8th in the same event is his first Varsity Meet.
Noah Gaddis and Camden Sturdevant finished in the Top 20 in the 55 Meter Dash, while Jules Dietzman placed in the Top 15 in the same event. Maddison Clark placed 15th in the Shot Put, while Aniastanya Raines placed 10th in each of their Indoor debuts.
This was a very encouraging first test of the season and we will be right back at SUNY Cortland again early Saturday morning for the 607 Invitational.
