Blue Devils Bring Home Two Wins and Two Runner-Up Finishes at Moravia Relays
Blue Devils Bring Home Two Wins and Two Runner-Up Finishes at Moravia Relays
Chenango Forks Track and Field traveled to the Moravia Relays Friday night and turned in one of the deepest team performances of the young 2026 season. Under chilly skies and a mild wind, the Blue Devils racked up two relay wins, two runner-up finishes, a finals appearance, and strong individual marks across nearly every event group.
Two Sprint Medley Relay Wins
The night's headline was a pair of victories in the freshman/sophomore Sprint Medley Relays. The girls combination of Becca, Giuliana, Lily, and Michaela took first place, signaling the depth of talent already developing in the program's youngest class. The boys answered with their own win behind the legs of Tyler, Dylan, Ryan, and Joe — a mixed group of sprinters and a distance anchor who executed cleanly when it counted.
Distance Group Brings Home Two Podium Finishes
The girls distance group put together one of their best collective nights of the season. The Distance Medley Relay team of Alyx, Grace, Clara, and Arianna finished second, with Clara turning in a strong 4:18 1200m leg, Grace contributing a 1:08 400m leg, and Arianna closing the race with a 5:39 1600m anchor. Later in the meet, the girls 4x800 relay team of Alyx, Avery, Clara, and Arianna matched the runner-up effort, finishing second.
Within those relays, several individual splits stood out. Joe turned in a strong 2:19 800m relay split for the boys, while Michaela ran a 2:49 800m relay split. Alyx ran two 2:51 800m splits across the night — back-to-back races at the same time, a real display of endurance. Becca took on a new race for her with the 400m leg and ran great, splitting 1:12.
Girls 4x100 Finals Appearance Highlights Freshman Depth
The girls 4x100 relay team of Lily, Olivia, Maya, and Avery qualified for finals at the meet. With three 9th graders and 8th grader Avery, the group has quickly become one of the bright spots of the program, and their finals appearance signals real promise for the next several seasons of Blue Devils sprinting.
Athletes Step Up Across the Lineup
One of the night's most encouraging stories was the number of Blue Devils who stepped into events outside their usual lineup, taking on tough doubles to fill out relay teams and contribute everywhere they were needed. Avery, Izzy, and Lily in particular ran races they don't typically run — a sign of the team-first attitude that's defining this group's culture and a reminder that being a Blue Devil means doing whatever helps the team score.
Lincoln Continues Long Jump Development
Junior Lincoln posted a strong long jump of 21 feet 3.5 inches at Moravia. He's continuing to develop in the event and will be looking to hit the New York state qualifying standard in the near future.
400m Relay Splits Show Development Across the Roster
Several athletes turned in meaningful 400m relay splits across multiple relay events. Tyler dropped his 400m time to 56.5, an improvement from earlier in the season and a confirmation that the 400m is becoming a real event for him. Camden and Ryan both broke a minute in their 400m relay legs, each running 59.5.
Field Events Round Out a Balanced Night
The Blue Devils also produced strong field event marks. Dylan posted the team's longest triple jump of the night at 34 feet 5 inches. Camden added a 32-9 triple jump to go with his 400m work. The 9th grade group continued their busy night, with Olivia recording a 13-4.5 long jump and a 28-10 triple jump, Lily turning in a 24-0 triple jump, and Izzy posting a 12-2.5 long jump in early-season field event development. Chase added a 15-11.5 long jump.
Throwers Step Up
The throwing group capped off the team performance with one of their most encouraging meets of the season. Their 4x100m relay was a standout — a credit to the speed development work the throws group has invested in alongside their throwing-specific training. Sam and Michael combined to finish fourth in the discus, putting Chenango Forks on the podium in the field as well as on the track.
Looking Ahead
What stood out most about Moravia was the program-wide nature of the success. Relay wins came from the underclassmen. Podium finishes came from the distance group. A finals appearance came from the freshman class. Strong field event marks came from across the roster. The throwers contributed in both their relay and individual event. When championships arrive in May and June, depth like this is what produces championship results.
The Blue Devils have a busy week ahead — a big dual meet at Chenango Valley on Wednesday followed by the Gerry O Invitational at Windsor on Friday. Two more chances to compete, develop, and build toward championships.
